West Dorset District and Weymouth and Portland Borough Councils are currently undertaking a review of their Meteorological Services. The Council’s Meteorological Service records daily weather information including minimum / maximum air and ground temperatures, rainfall, wind speed and direction, sun hours etc. These readings are provided to organisations such as the National Met Office on a daily and monthly basis.

They are looking to establish how many other local authorities continue to or have previously operated a Meteorological Service on a similar basis.  It would also be helpful to access informed views on the merits or demerits, if any, of retain or of abandoning such reporting, where in recent memory you have consciously done so.
